Christmas Road Trip

Ah, the vast expanse of nothingness that is the midwest. I'm so glad that we don't live there.

We left O'Fallon, MO, at a little before 4 AM. We didn't reach the border of Ohio until almost 2 PM. For those of you who are geographically challenged, as I am, that is just over 350 miles. This means, if my math is correct, that we drove for 10 hours at an average speed of 35 miles per hour. For those of you who are wondering, yes that is an infuriating speed to be driving on a freeway.

We gave up at about 7 on Wednesday night, still crawling through the state of Ohio. The next day at around 8 in the morning, the sky was clear and sunny. We ate breakfast and when we walked outside to pack the car, it had started snowing again. Just our luck. By the time we made it to New York state, the weather was a little nicer. This looks like ocean, but it's not. It's Lake Erie. I never really had an idea of how huge it really is, until I stood on the beach. Also, it looked freezing.

We saw a sign claiming Niagra Falls was "just around the corner" so since we were making good time, we decided to add a few miles to the trip and see the falls. It was so cold that we didn't even walk down to see the actual falls. We just walked around by the river that creates them, took some pictures, and went back to the car. But it's ok, because the parking was free.

I can't even imagine how cold that water is.
